Recently I noticed a number of horizontal lines in my Laptop’s display. They appeared out of nowhere and it was difficult to watch anything on the screen. The fix that worked for me was to dial down the refresh rate of the laptop screen.
In my case, the screen supported two native refresh rate values. 60 Hz mode an 144 Hz mode. I observed the issue was there when there was dynamic content like videos, but hardly any issues when reading content. As soon as I updated the refresh rate of the display to 60 Hz, the issue seemed to have been fixed.
The following are the steps I followed to change the refresh rate in Windows 11. But, this could vary depending on your OS type (Linux, Windows, etc.) or OS Version (Windows 7, Windows 10, Windows 11, etc.).
First press the Windows + s key shortcut and search for advanced display.
Next, a prompt would appear and ask whether to Keep the display settings and click on Keep changes.
Click on the Keep Changes button. That’s it. This resolved my issue. In my case, 144 Hz is not a refresh rate that I would use, since I’m not a gamer. But, depending on your use case this could differ though.
Unfortunately, if your display only supports one mode of Refresh rate, then you may have to look for other options like updating the display drivers, checking for connectivity issues (ribbon could be loose), or in the worst case visiting an expert on the matter.
